SPE Workshop: Carbon Storage and Management - September 2024

Entitled 'Why the Measurement and Allocation of CO2 in CCUS is rather complicated?', Zakiah's presentation delved into established concerns around CO2 measurement challenges, illustrated possible allocation challenges at various points along carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS) process chain and summarised the need for a pragmatic approach to allow industry to progress and learn.

Key messages for this diverse audience of industry stakeholders included the need for everyone involved to acknowledge that 'we learn as we go' and that no one has complete solutions to all of the challenges of measurement and allocation in CCUS — flexibility is required to help all parties progress and develop their skills.

The presentation was met with appreciation and interest from the audience — all keen to better understand the topic and apply learnings from the oil & gas industry to growing areas such as CCUS.
